Why Study Arts Management at Goucher?

The demands of the arts manager has grown more sophisticated (beyond connoisseurship) and requires formalized training. The best preparation for a career in arts management is an academic background in arts management studies enhanced by practical, professional experience. However, most arts administrators learned "on the job" and only 20% of working professionals ever completed coursework in arts management studies at the undergraduate level. Goucher is among only a handful of schools in the United States that offers a packaged program of arts management courses for undergraduates.

What Will You Learn?

Goucher's Arts Management Program prepares students to pursue professional careers related to managing, producing, and advancing the cultural arts. All core courses feature guest speakers of working arts administrators, which reinforces course content and connects students to working professionals. Learning is based on real-life case studies of existing organizations, and students complete assignments similar to arts administrators, such as writing or creating mission statements, fundraising letters, budgets, business plan/grant proposals, and organizational assessments or evaluations.  Learn More

Director Business Management at Uovo

“Since graduation, I completed a Master's in Art History and have worked in the fine art world in New York City for about a decade. My degree from Goucher is a double major in Business Management and Art’s Management with a concentration in Art History, and all of my classes are applicable to what I do on a daily basis.”
